Listening to Queenslanders
The Smart State vision includes everyone. The public consultation process conducted in 2004 involving over 740 people was a central component in designing this Strategy, Smart Queensland.
In response to the discussion paper, 430 submissions were received from across the Queensland community, including organisations such as Queensland universities and research institutes, local government authorities, professional associations, industry associations, business and community groups as well as many individual contributions.
A series of face-to-face forums were held to gauge the views of Queensland’s business, industry, research and community leaders and young people. The Premier and Ministers attended these forums to hear first hand the views of the community. The forums included a youth forum in Toowoomba, a summit at Parliament House and a forum in Townsville. In all, 271 individuals from business, industry, education, research and the community participated, including 79 young people.
Working groups comprising leaders from government, industry and the research community were also convened to contribute to the Strategy’s development. Over 40 people gave their time to discuss and debate issues on skills development, industry and infrastructure, research, development and commercialisation and sustainable development.
The Queensland Government thanks everyone who participated in the consultation process for their considered contributions. This Strategy has been strongly guided by your contributions and reflects Queenslanders’ aspirations for a Smart State.
