Evaluating Smart Queensland
The Strategy’s success will be measured by the rate of our economic growth and the quality of Queenslanders’ lives in a range of areas. This includes the educational choices available to Queensland parents and their children; the diversity of cultural opportunities; the availability, diversity and skill-level of jobs; and the quality of our natural environment.
Realistically, no direct measures are available to tell us dollar-for-dollar whether our investment in skills and innovation is paying off. Direct measures of well-being are also difficult to develop because people assign different values and priorities to different aspect of their lives. A goal of Smart Queensland is to satisfy these diverse needs by offering choice. By tracking key economic and capacity-building outcomes and innovation indicators we can measure whether we have an environment in which people can exercise their choices. This is not a short-term endeavour. These indicators will need to be measured and considered over a significant period of time – the Smart State Strategy is an investment for the future.
The Queensland Government will report to Queenslanders on these key indicators. We will also continue to monitor, evaluate and report on the performance and impact of specific programs and initiatives of Smart Queensland.
